I found this settlers journal in a cave with a bunch of corpses, wolves and bears. Apparently there's supposed to be a ring somewhere too but I'm assuming it won't be there unless you do a mission involving this cave/area. I couldn't find anything about it when I searched the forums for "settlers journal", "settler's journal", and just plain "journal".

helpful input would be greatly appreciated.

My character cleaned out the wolves and bears living among the bones of the devoured settlers. He found a magic ring in one of the crates. The ring was cheap and the magic was weak. There wasn't any good loot or weapons in the whole ice cave. This small group was foolish to attempt to settle in the northern wilds of Solstheim without powerful weapons, warriors, and magic. Only the strong survive there. The weak are lunch.

I guess I need to go back through the crates then. So no quest to go with it? Bummer. I guess I'll have to settle for the 500+ other missions :lol:

When I went there, one of the bears was wearing the ring and he'd shoot fireballs at you... Check the bear's corpses.

I assumed he ate the settler who was wearing the ring (the journal mentions having a fire-spelled ring) because, in addition to the ring, there were bones on the bear's corpse. I think the bear shooting fireballs is kind of a fluke.

a bear shooting fireballs? i can't say i noticed that, but when i went through i was invisible so nothing attacked me. I'll look for the fire spitting bear.

Definitely - the bear has the ring from the digested settler and uses it. But as someone else posted, it's pretty small beer as enchantments go.
