Are you talking about Shenmue? The one that was originally on Dreamcast? They were supposed to make an online one, but it was a loooong time ago, and I haven't heard anything for a while. But they do have to finish the story, you've got to get Lan-Di!

My, some years ago I read an article about a Shenmue movie. Some sort of CG movie and that there won't be a 3rd part(at least not a playable one). Then, the Sega team came up again with Shenmue 3, but that article was also several years old. I suppose that S3 will share the same fate destiny as Aliens: Colonial Marines.
Somehow sad, the 2nd Shenmue was really great and the ending very promising...

Was it a real movie? Or is it possible they were talking about the disc that came with Shenmue 2, the cut scenes from 1 they called "Shenmue: the Movie"

No, it was announced as real, stand alone CG movie, just like final fantasy advent children.

Yeah, that would have been sweet. Even if it was the close of the story in place of the third, at least their would be some closure.

One of the greatest DC games ever made. And Shenmue II was so much more with all those different locations. I hope at some point it'll become feasible to continue the series.

The Shenmue Online site hasn't been updated for 5 years, although some hope still lingers according to Wiki:

I had a circle of friends that loved it. This game came out when i was in highschool and i played it daily. It had a great combat system and it stayed interesting.
The furthest I got was to the docks when you had to get that job and do those tasks that felt like forever i think i left it around there. But yea Shenmue was so good it was kind of underrated.
